Starting in 2021, a Beginning Farmer & Rancher (BFR) can use a Previous Producer’s yield history.
There are a few requirements to meet:
- The BFR must have been involved in the decision making of a farming operation.
- The BFR must have actively participated in the crops being planted.
- The Previous Producer must give consent for the yield history to be used.
Example: A BFR has been involved in the family corn and soybean operation. The BFR starts renting 80 acres that the family has not previously farmed. Up to 10 years of the Previous Producer’s corn and soybean yield history can be used to establish the BFR’s APH database.
In the past, the BFR was only allowed to use the yield history if he had been involved in the farming of those 80 acres. Also, the BFR was limited to the number of years he was involved.
This new rule provides the opportunity to obtain a higher APH and higher coverage. Visit with your crop insurance agent for more details.
